Have you ever seen one of these before? When I was growing up my dad's parents would often visit for Sunday dinner. My Grandma Gusty would always bring a chocolate cake in this very cake saver. Years later she explained to me that the only proper dessert is cake... and knowing the chocolate lover my grandma was, it was always chocolate. (Celisa would have loved her.)
I don't remember exactly when it was but Mark and I were in town with our three kids and we were visiting her. As we were getting ready to go she pulled out the cake saver which had not been used for a while. She showed me a little dent in it and a small spot of rust and made a few suggestions as to how to get it perfect again. As we were putting on the kids jackets and gathering toys, she continually got more uneasy. Suddenly she disappeared into her bedroom and then reappeared with another cake saver. "Here" she said, "take this one - it's perfect." Then came her confession, "I was going to keep it in case I want to take a cake somewhere but I feel guilty not giving you my best one". Now I felt guilty, even knowing what the proper dessert was I never took a cake anywhere unless it was in a 9x12 pan. This obviously meant more to her than it did to me until that moment. Despite my objections I left with the perfect one. Unfortunately I have never used it to this day. Maybe it's time to do a little baking and visiting....

You are welcome to visit with (or without) chocolate cake anytime.
I got the dented cake server. I haven't every used but evertime I look at it I smile.....I always think that is the love in the cake and visit not the pan it goes in. She did make really good chocolate cake. ps your welcome to visit me and I'll provide a chocolate cake.
Ok, now I feel even more guilty. Thanks Linda! ;)
I am so sentimental about things like this - it's probably why I have boxes and boxes of classics like this! Love the cake story. And I'm working on my tag from you - it's a tough one. Thanks!
Did you say Chocolate cake??
Count me in as another friend looking to serve another friend by letting her bring chocolate cake!
I love sentimental things as well! It time to have some cake!... then you wont feel guilty.... until you count the calories... but thats a whole other issue
Feeling sentimental I made a chocolate cake with yummy chocolate frosting on Sunday. I cut back on calories on the cake itself but mmmmmm got to love that frosting - didn't change a thing... 10 points per piece (I only get 23 per day)- so I planned well and ate a half a piece - that's the beauty of the flex plan on weight watchers right? Wisely I sent most of the cake home with Aaron and Celisa but saved two pieces - one for Christian and one for Jennifer. Yesterday the cake was still sitting there untouched. Every time I looked in the fridge I could almost taste that fudgy chocolate frosting.... drool. Finally yesterday I took just a pinch of one of their pieces... a little later a bite. After a few more bites I threw both pieces in the trash and smooshed them into other things - no temptation any more. I weigh in tomorrow - it's one thing if you plan it but this was not planned. Really not enough satisfaction for the number of points. I'm eating a little less today to try and compensate. Send me light thoughts!
